We have seen many of these cases where the structural steel has suffered great metal loss and now falls outside acceptable design criteria. In fact “it is estimated that about 50% of the worlds steel production is used to replace corroded structures. In the UK researches have shown that 1 ton of steel is completely converted into rust every 90 seconds”.*
Corrosion can be expensive, will result in an unsafe environment and can ultimately lead to production losses. An effective continuous maintenance and corrosion prevention plan can limit this.
